i know it have been ages since i last post. the matter is that no one reads so no one really cares. so here it goes. the notes for chemistry.

What is an activity series, and how is it used?

An activity series is a list of substances ranked in order of relative reactivity. For example, magnesium metal can knock hydrogen ions out of solution, so it is considered more reactive than elemental hydrogen:

Mg(s) + 2 H⁺(aq) H₂(g) + Mg²⁺(aq)

Zinc can also displace hydrogen ions from solution:

Zn(s) + 2 H⁺(aq) H₂(g) + Zn²⁺(aq)

so zinc is also more active than hydrogen. But magnesium metal can remove zinc ions from solution:

Mg(s) + Zn²⁺(aq) Zn(s) + Mg²⁺(aq)

The reaction goes nearly to completion [Note 1]. Magnesium is more active than zinc, and the activity series including these elements would be Mg > Zn > H. The following activity series built up in a similar way. The most active metals are at the top of the table; the least active are at the bottom. Each metal is able to displace the elements below it from solution (or, using the language of electrochemistry, each metal can reduce the cations of metals below it to their elemental forms).

The activity series is a useful guide for predicting the products of metal displacement reactions. For example, placing a strip of zinc metal in a copper(II) sulfate solution will produce metallic copper and zinc sulfate, since zinc is above copper on the series. A strip of copper placed into a zinc sulfate solution will not produce an appreciable reaction, because copper is below zinc on the series and can't displace zinc ions from solution. The series works well as long as the reactions being predicted occur at room temperature and in aqueous solution. It isn't difficult to find reactions that are at odds with the metal and nonmetal activity series under other conditions. There are other complications too. For example, aluminum would be expected to displace hydrogen from steam, but in fact it won't unless the aluminum oxide film on its surface is scrubbed off. Copper can't displace hydrogen from acids, but it does react with acids like nitric and sulfuric because they can act as oxidizing agents. It might be expected that metals with lower ionization energies and lower electronegativities would be more active, since they would be expected to more easily lose electrons in a displacement reaction. But while ionization energy and electronegativity do affect a metal's ranking in the series, other factors have a strong and complex influence on relative activity [Note 2], obscuring the relationship. Activity series can be devised for nonmetals as well. Since nonmetallic elements tend to accept electrons in redox reactions, the nonmetal activity series is arranged so that the most powerful oxidizing agents are considered most active (whereas in the metal series, the most powerful reducing agents are the most active):

20100820 Excelso Cup!

Hey 4Zealers! :) Recently the mods are not updating LOL so let's have me post instead! :B
Anyways I suppose you guys now that recently we have this annual Excelso Cup going on right?
Did you guys watched the match this evening? We shouted at full pitch to support 'our classmates' in BBSPIK B, who was against Ketapang 1. Really, never thought that we could shout that loud. It was 'beda tipis' with 28 for BBSPIK B and 27 for Ketapang 1. It was a really heart throbbing one (even though I didn't watch the 'scene' where they got the winning score, DUH.)

MODS: I hope we can update daily about Excelso Cup since our folks who don't have time to watch can be updated with the 'who won and who lost' thang. :)

so today is 2nd of July and i thought i'd give u guys some tips on how to- wait a minute. it's 2ND OF JULY? CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11 june 2010 - report card !!

HOY hahah
so today is the report card distribution . how ya feelin?
most of u got the award and stuff , CONGRATS :D
and those who havent, lets try our best in the next academic year ! ~

anyway anyway these few days were just plainly boring. well, not for those who participated interclass soccer/basketball. the rest were like sleeping in the class or idk doing something stoopid.

and the year end ! gosh so touching *shed some tears*
do u notice that our chem teacha cried? many people cried too!
i am glad being part of 3 zeal. nothing, just nothing can replace this AWESUM feelings and memories we shared togedur.

so for the several times, ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY :D  coz the next academic year will be really packed. term one will be very short so revise when u got time during these holidays,term two will be revising all those subjects + new things learn in term 1. term 3 will be the prelim and term 4 *TADAA* our dearest IGCSE .

9 June 2010 - YESTERDAY WAS AWSUUUM

as the title says,, YESTERDAY WAS AWSUMM!! :D although some of us were late and Mr. Randy can't come (boooooooo) ahhahahha XD all in all it was really really great and i'm sure it'll be a memory that none of us will ever forget (unless u're someone who has a short term memory) it really was amazing and seriously man,, eventhough i write like a 1000 word essay on this,, it still can't describe the AWSUM-NESS that we had yesterday :) some of us were paparazzi for the night and catching every single candid moments possible.. seriously,, we have A LOT of candid moments that'll get u laughing like a maniac.. we were really having a great time there and when we gave the teachers the presents that we made,, it was so touching :') we will definetely miss Ms.Zee The BOOM-est English and Form teacher,, Mr. Tessier The CRUNCHIEST Physics Teacher,, Ms. Whel The SHORTEST Chemistry Teacher,, Mr. Chandi The OK-est E.Maths Teacher and the absentee Mr. Randy The BIG-EYED A.Maths Teacher.. and as much as i want to write a whole essay and describing every single moment of it,, lemme just show you pictures cos you know what they say "A Picture Says A Thousand Words" :) stupid blog cant upload our photo :'(

so maybe you guys are wondering on what to use , or wear tomorrow. anyway this might be handy to some of u who dont get what 'colorful' means :p

yo 3 zeals ! its been a long time since i last post something lol THREE DAYS!! XD
so so so anyway tomorrow is our party and we have like our interclass tomorrow and reminder for all of u who had plan to skip school tom remember to use ur PE shirt ! u dont wanna be the only one in uniform tomorrow dont u?

how ur marks? lol for all of u who have got like HIGH MARKS totally deserve it . =) thanks for the hardwork and effort u've put on this academic year. keep on the GREAT work and for those who havent yaknow like me?  dont quit ! and let this be a lesson for u , and prove that you can do better for the next academic years :p i know i sound real lame

well well well, time fly real fast ! felt like its just yesterday we are , ya know, havent reveal our true colors yet and still trying hard to remember our class mates name and NOW , i mean today is our last class together :'( i mean to study and stuff. *sobsob*

FINALLY OUR GLORIOUS TIME HAS ARRIVED *MWAHAHHAAH*
so guys, what are you planning for holiday?
i guess, chillin out with ur buddies he?
anyway just be prepare for the DOOM day when u need to take the report card. and get ready for SEC 4 ZEAL ~ YUHUUUUUU ~~ i wannn the zeal to have new faces.. hoho
it will be fun . but im not that sure about the academic subject thingy. i think we will have like extra class on saturday like everytime. well hell on that, im not gonna care ~~ i wanna spend my holiday peacefully without anythots about those stuff// :s

well,, with only 1 more exam to go i figure i'd just do a post to give u ideas about what to wear to the party :D well,, i got it all from google so it's really hard for me to find that perfect idea of what we're gonna wear for the party so here are some things that might make u go "whoa i have that in my closet!" or "with a li'l tweak here and there it's gonna be the same!" kinda thing XD
